Your data, and how your coach uses it
Imperfect is an AI training coach for athletes with real lives and big goals. To coach you well, it works with your training and health data. Here is exactly what we collect, what the AI does with it, who else helps run it, and the controls you have, in plain language.

The short version
Every company is named
We list every third party that touches your data, and the ones that don't. Opaque is the worst answer to a privacy question.
We don't train AI on your data
Your data coaches you. It isn't used to train AI models. We improve the system with anonymized data that isn't tied back to you.
Your memory is yours
What the coach remembers about you lives in our own database, not a third-party AI service, and you can delete it.
You're in control
Disconnect a data source, export your data, or delete it whenever you want.
What we collect
Only what helps the coach understand your training and reach you.
Training & health data
Workouts, routes, heart rate, sleep, body metrics, and cycle data from the apps you connect, like Garmin Connect, Apple Health, Coros, or Clue.
What you tell the coach
Your goals, how you're feeling, and the messages you send in chat.
Account basics
The details needed to run your account and send you your plan and updates.
How your coach uses your data
Two things happen with your data, and we keep them separate on purpose.
Thinking & replying
When the coach reasons or writes back, the data it needs is sent to an AI model to generate a response. The model providers don't train on your data and keep it only briefly.
Remembering you
Imperfect keeps a private profile of your training (your goals, your history, what's working) so the coach knows you between conversations. It lives in our own database, not a third-party AI memory service, and you can delete it.
Do we train AI on your data?
No. We don't train AI models on your personal data. We do use anonymized data to evaluate and improve the coaching system, so Imperfect keeps getting better, but that work isn't tied back to you.

Naming every company that helps run Imperfect is the honest thing to do. None of our AI providers train on your data.

How it's protected
- Encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Access is limited to running and improving the service.
- Each provider is covered by a data-processing agreement or equivalent data-protection terms.
- Your profile is stored in the United States.
How long we keep it
Model calls
Kept only briefly by the AI providers, and never used for training.
Your memory
Stays while your account is active, and is deleted when you ask or close it.
Logs & backups
Rotate on a limited schedule. Backups are kept up to 60 days.
Your controls
Your data is yours. While we finish building these into the app, email us and we'll take care of it.
Disconnect a source
Unlink Garmin Connect, Apple Health, or any wearable at any time.
Export your data
Ask for a copy of the messages and information you've sent us directly. Health and activity data lives in the apps you connected, like Garmin Connect, Apple Health, Coros, or Clue, so you can export it from there.
Delete your data
Ask us to delete your profile and everything the coach remembers about you. We complete deletion within 30 days.
